BrownieMilk: Progress Report
Hey cats,
It’s been a while since I’ve posted here! You might be wondering what’s been going on behind the scenes at Cheese Cat, right? Where’s Club Penguin Horizons, is there any update on the Trout Trials? What about the other games that are being baked in the oven? Well this post is the answer to your questions!
For the past couple months, I’ve been trying to bring my old YouTube channel back from the grave. I posted on it what feels like an eternity ago. And not only have I been trying to revive it, I’ve also been studying every statistic and analytic I can to continue to grow.
Today, I’m giving you an update on the channel, BrownieMilk, so you can see how far I’ve come, and what future goals are for the channel. So let’s hop into it!
Views
As you can see from this graph, BrownieMilk has gained over 95,000 views since I came back to the YouTube channel near the beginning of August. It is now the beginning of October. That means the channel has almost hit 6 figures worth of views in just under 60 days!
Subscribers
There has also been a modest increase in Subscribers! The goal is currently to convert more first-time viewers to subscribers, but that comes with time. As you can see, subscribers have started to increase exponentially faster recently, with a relatively slow uptick at the beginning of the channel revival.
Watch Time (Hours)
Watch time is the one that has surprised me the most! The channel went from absolutely NO impressions or views and immediately began to spike when I started posting again. You can see on the graph that there are some more monumental days than others.
Audience
Monthly audience is a great way to check to see how warm your viewers are. If you haven’t noticed from all of these graphs, the channel was completely dead until August. That’s because BrownieMilk was on a one year hiatus prior to the revival. The way that YouTube categorizes viewers is by the number of months they’ve watched your content. Obviously, New Viewers, are seeing you for the first time, but Casual Viewers is what’s currently expanding day-by-day. That means they have watched multiple pieces of content from me across multiple days. Anything from 1-5 months span of viewing counts under Casual Viewers. Regular viewers are ones who have watched me for 6+ months. So as you can see, we still have a ways to go here, but that comes with the territory for a channel that has been completely vacant for a year.
A Quick Analysis
There are a few very important statistics here that warrant a quick mention.
For starters, each graph shows a huge jump, followed by a major dip, and then another jump. That isn’t due to content being worse those days. In fact, I took an intentional two week break to see what would happen to the channel. In the meantime, I was editing and scheduling YouTube videos to go live!
All of these stats are primarily being carried by YouTube shorts, which is a fantastic tool for distribution and getting your channel out to as many people as possible. Converting cold viewers to subscribers with a single Short is VERY difficult, but I have seen a handful of my shorts or long form videos get 2+ subscribers a piece. Sometimes up to 8 or 10.
BrownieMilk is an experiment, not an established channel. Prior attempts at content creation were plagued with motivation problems, a messy workflow, and inconsistency. This current effort has pushed way beyond that and has become a distribution power-house compared to the channel size. The current challenge is getting more of those cold viewers to stick around.
What’s Next?
I plan to take the next 4 or so months to primarily focus on BrownieMilk. This is the first proper case study, and shows just how powerful consistency and effort is. A few videos per week in addition to about 10-15 shorts has added up to creating a channel that entertains and converts. Shorts have gone from an average of 5 likes all the way up to an average of 18 likes, with some reaching towards triple digits. Subscribers are coming in day-by-day, and content is getting easier to create.
Cheese Cat is NOT going to cease to create anything because of this case study. Instead, look forward to more Club Penguin Horizons update posts, in addition to some other tasty treats I’m baking up for you!
